Who Cares?

November 23, 2009

So I wrote a book called Never Die Wondering?  Who cares?  Well for a start, I do.  It wasn’t a mammoth feat but it still required diligence, determination and discipline.  That seems to matter a lot in life and if you find it hard going why not read about some of my experiences – it might encourage you to take on a few new ones of your own.  I have just finished the follow up book called Get Cracking. We all have dreams but without action it won’t happen and so I was inspired to write something to get you going.  Full of enthusiasm I now want to write a book on relationships as I am intrigued by both my own relationships with others and that of other people.  I feel a bit like a peeping Tom when I research this particular topic but am looking forward to putting pen to paper!

Yesterday’s News

November 23, 2009

Yesterday I went swimming in the sea. We have had some blustery weather and althouth the tide was not very high the waves looked good. I donned my wet suit and clutching my surf board I took to the water. A friend joined me. He was inspired to have a go having seen me out a couple of weeks previously. We did not get a good run in on the waves but we did have a good laugh and enjoyed being out in the elements.
Back on the beach we quickly changed, exchanged watery experiences and enjoyed a hot cup of coffee. What have you done that is different? What would you like to do that is different? How can you overcome your fear? Be bold, start the week as you mean to go.

1000 copies

November 17, 2009

I have just received another stack of Never Die Wondering!  The perfect Christmas present and so with that in mind I aim to sell 1,000 copies between now and 25th December.  We all go into December either with a light step or a heavy heart.  It is the cost and the effort of organising Christmas that seems to affect a lot of people.  Don’t be down hearted.  Keep it simple and don’t take on too much.  My best parties are the ones where I ask everyone to bring their own picnic food and drink.  If they can play a musical instrument – they can bring that along too.  The party just happens.  All I have to do is provide the venue and a dustbin bag to throw the rubbish in.  Look forward to the dark nights and light them up with fairy lights and candles.  Turn off the television and turn up the music, learn to play cards or read a different kind of book.  Go for a winter picnic and enjoy the clear days of winter.  Look forward to my next book called ‘Get Cracking’.

DDIA: Don’t do it all…..

November 9, 2009

Last week I was on the Tall Ships and the great lesson that I learned was team work. We didn’t stop working from 8.30a.m. until 5p.m. when we were stood down. When a rope was pulled on one side of the ship someone had to be on the other side releasing the tension. When the anchor was being lifted on top, I was down below making sure that the chain was not getting entangled. When the sail was being released a line of us were hanging over the yard arm working in unison to ensure that it all went smoothly.
Just the same in life, we all need ‘mates’, someone who has expertise in an area that defies us. Don’t be afraid to ask and don’t be afraid to offer.

Full Sail Ahead

November 2, 2009

2nd November 09

Saturday morning saw me in the Boston Tea Party café in Honiton, promoting my book, Never Die Wondering.  Apart from the pleasure of selling my book it is the people that you meet.  A couple who had been in the air force were interested in my experiences and we exchanged banter about service life.  A man who wants to go around the world on a motor cycle but is juggling family and work and those who had hit forty and decided that they needed my book to make sure that they do not die wondering!

Today I am off to Portsmouth because tomorrow morning at 0800 hours, my friend Jennifer and I, join the tall ships adventure for three days sailing up the channel.  I have little idea what is in store for us, other than we are expected to be part of the crew.  I have a few more hours left to learn the names of all the sails before going on board. In preparation my husband and I took to the beach yesterday and did some body boarding in the crashing seas following the storm of the night before and I got one great run in!  I am pleased to report this morning all is calm and the sun is shining.  I hardly dare look at the weather forecast for the next few days.

Ready to set sail:

Today I am off to Portsmouth because tomorrow morning at 0800 hours, my friend Jennifer and I, join the tall ships adventure for three days sailing up the channel.  I have little idea what is in store for us, other than we are expected to be part of the crew and  have a few more hours left to learn the names of all the sails before going on board. In preparation my husband and I took to the beach yesterday and did some body boarding in the crashing seas following the storm of the night before and I got one great run in!  I am pleased to report this morning all is calm and the sun is shining.  I hardly dare look at the weather forecast for the next few days.

I have wanted to see these magnificent sailing ships but never had the opportunity, soon I will have inside information.  As the time for boarding draws near I feel a mixture of apprehension about the rolling seas and excitement about climbing the main beam.  I am going to buy some sea sickness pills just in case.  Most important I am ready for another adventure!
